Information About the Mackichan Hall Boys Hostel

  • There are limited seats available for boys of Wilson College at the Mackichan Hall Boys Hostel, which will be allotted on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • There are seats reserved for BMS students as their admission happens later.
  • The student, on payment of the college fees, is eligible for hostel admission.
  • The hostel form can be accessed through the login ID provided to the student on the student portal.
  • The hostel form has practically all the information and instructions that a candidate should know. Nonetheless, a few frequently asked questions are answered below.

1. What type of room will be allotted to the student?

  • First year students are always allotted sharing rooms, mostly triple sharing rooms.
  • Second and third year students are eligible for single-seater rooms.
  • The rooms are non-AC and without attached toilet facilities.

Hostel facilities:

  • Every floor has ample washrooms (8, to be precise) with shower and geyser.
  • 6 toilets (3 Indian and 3 Western), separate urinals and wash basins.
  • Washing machine facility, free WiFi, CCTV camera.
  • Water cooler with purifier, LED TV, indoor sports equipment.
  • Tea/coffee vending machine and compulsory hostel mess.

2. a. What are the hostel fees?

  • Sharing room (first year): Rs. 68,000 in the first term and Rs. 50,000 in the second term.
  • Single seater: Rs. 73,000 for the first term and Rs. 55,000 for the second term.

2. b. How to pay the fees?

  • The fees have to be paid in the society office, 2nd floor, Wilson College through the QR code.
  • The hostel fee receipt should be collected from the society office.
  • Submit the receipt along with the hard copy printout of the hostel form to the hostel office during room allotment.
  • One parent and a local guardian must be present. Local guardian is a MUST.

3. Will I be allowed to see the room?

  • No, as a policy of the society that isn't allowed.
  • Which room will be allotted is not known in advance.
  • If a room is allotted to students, they may not be available in the room at the time of your arrival.
  • Rest assured the rooms are well maintained and comfortable.
  • We receive more than 300 requests from Wilson as well as non-Wilson students for 100 odd seats.

4. What essentials will the student be provided so that you could come prepared?

  • Each student is provided with a cot, cupboard, table, chair, fan and stand for drying clothes.
  • Coir mattresses (and not cotton ones) are needed and can be provided at a discounted cost of Rs. 3,300/- with prior intimation.
  • Money to be paid in cash to the vendor. The choice is yours.
  • Other personal items and toiletries are to be brought by the students.

5. When can the student join the hostel?

  • Once the hostel fees are paid, the student will be allotted a room even a day prior to joining the program.
  • Room allotment is from Monday to Friday between 5 to 6 p.m. only in the hostel office.
  • Compulsory presence of one parent and a local guardian is required.
  • Hard copy of the hostel form along with all supporting documents as mentioned and uploaded with the form are needed.
  • Medical fitness certificate from a registered MBBS medical practitioner stating physically and mentally fit is mandatory.

6. Does the hostel fee include both boarding and lodging facilities?

  • Hostel mess is compulsory.
  • The hostel fees are only for lodging.
  • Mess charges of approximately Rs. 7,000 per month are charged separately before the 7th of each month.
  • Both veg and non-veg meals (alternate days for dinner) include breakfast, lunch, evening tea with snacks, and dinner.
  • No request for optional mess will be entertained.

7. Ragging

  • Zero tolerance for ragging.
  • A separate undertaking for the prohibition of ragging is taken for the hostel.

8. Warden residence

  • Residence of the Warden is in the hostel.

9. In-time

  • In-time is 8:30 p.m. Monday to Friday and 10:00 p.m. on weekends (prior intimation would be given).

10. Prohibited items and conduct

  • Tobacco in any form.
  • Cigarette in any form (vape, e-cigarettes, etc.).
  • Alcohol and loud music.
  • Electrical appliances (except charging devices like phone and laptop).
  • Two- and/or four-wheeler vehicles.
  • Keeping pets is strictly prohibited.

11. Hostel dress code

  • Knee-length shorts or bermudas and half T-shirt.

12. Local guardian

  • Hostel admission will be denied without an adult local guardian.

13. Warden's decision

  • The Warden's decision is final and binding on the residents.
  • Other details will be shared when we meet in person on the evening of room allotment.
