The department of Economics was well established by 1913 and was privileged to be blessed by the presence of C.N. Vakil, H.L. Dantwala, V.K.R.V Rao. The department is inspired to carry on their legacy. In keeping with the vision and mission of the college, the faculty of the department strive to achieve the following objectives:
• To empower students with skills and knowledge to face the challenges of the fast changing global economic scenario.
• To nurture confidence with a sense of personal worth in students in order to develop their capabilities and potentialities.
• To provide holistic and inclusive education for all.
• To make learning contemporary and relevant.
• To encourage students to achieve academic excellence.
• To train students in quantitative techniques for economic analysis.
• To train students to think critically on economic issues.
The department along with it’s dynamic student forum Arthiki, organizes various activities throughout the year like guest lecture sessions, quizzes, essay writing competitions, meme making and poster making competitions, film and documentary screenings, book reviews, field visits, career guidance sessions, webinars, collaborative lectures with other colleges etc.
The department adopts a participatory student - teacher as well as student- student approach to learning. Furthermore, group presentations, reading of economic scenarios as well as commenting/critiquing on Economic Policy formulations are other ways in which knowledge is imparted. The department also provides academic support to prepare students for Postgraduate entrance tests and other competitive examinations.
Arthiki organized its first annual fest titled “Festa Dell’economia†on 6th, 7th and 8th January 2022. The three-day annual event included the following events: Debate Competition, Game Night, Budget/Policy Making, Meme Making Competition, Article Writing Competition, Sessions and an Alumni Meet. Overall the fest enabled both undergraduate and postgraduate students to showcase their knowledge in the area of economics, compete, achieve and succeed. This enabled them to immerse themselves in the world of everyday economics by applying it to real life situations.

Short Biography:
Teaching is one of the noble profession. Mr.Sunit Das has been trying to bridge the gap between theoretical concepts and real world examples since the time he has joined this profession. As a teacher of economics, his main objective is to break the myth that economics is more of complicated theories. Rather it's level of understanding would help students in economic decision making - right from individual decision making to being a policy maker at a macroeconomic level. Being a lecturer, his approach is to teach students in a calibrated way by making them engaged in economic problem solving along the lines of theoretical concepts and take students through appropriate transition in the study of economics. Mr.Sunit appreciates dynamic understanding of the economic system at the apex level and would like to encourage students to explore their area of interest by taking up research work in in economics.

Short Biography:
Ms. Harshada Mhaske’s teaching is that manure which helps in flourishing the land of knowledge. As an Economics teacher, she always tries to make the subject more and more interesting. Through her teaching she wants that her students should be able to connect the dots between the past and present; theory and reality. Being a teacher, she aims to inculcate the analytical skills among the students which will not only help them in understanding the subject in depth but also will assist in economic decision-policy making.
