                                                       General Information


Wilson College has various activities to encourage a student to develope their potential and talents in all aspect of Life to be a blessing to their society we live in.

Student Council

Student Council was initiated way back in 1900 as a literary society. Now it is represented by top- ranking students from each class who play an active role in organizing a number of student – centric activities like intra-class competitions, workshops, celebration of college day and Teacher’s day, orientation programs, etc. It is guided by the norms set by the University.

The Principal, a staff advisor, Dean of students, Dean of Women students, NSS Program officer, Toppers, Cultural Centre student representative, Gymkhana student representative, NSS student representative, 2 women student representatives form an integral part of the Council.  It also takes a number of initiatives all round the year in coalition with Cultural Centre and Women’s Development Cell.

Cultural Centre or Fine Arts Circle

      

Wilson College has a rich tradition of encouraging and nurturing talents. The Cultural  Centre provides Junior as well as Degree college students an opportunity to participate in an array of cultural activities, competitions and workshops held by the centre all round the year.

The winners in these competitions are then nominated for participation in other intercollegiate competitions. The Cultural centre in collaboration with Student’s Council also organizes Annual College Day.




NSS/ NCC
                                                            
  

The NSS is guided under the norms of the University. The volunteers enrolled work as a team on projects of social relevance for two consecutive years. The wing in association with a number of NGOs work for the welfare of mentally challenged and the under-priviledged children. Teaching in municipal schools, participating in awareness rallies organized by the University are some of the many activities conducted by NSS.

The NSS plays a pivotal role in conducting Blood donation drives in the college twice every year. This has been highly acknowledged by the Blood Bank. Students are also sent for Leadership Training Programs.  An NSS camp is conducted for a period of 10days every year where students are involved in projects of social relevance.

                                                                                 

CEP

Unique to Wilson College, this program aims to expose graduating especially BA and Bsc students to the corporate world making them aware of what is expected of them in their corporate service.

It is planned in consultation with experts from renowned industrial background and heads of departments in the college.

It is broadly divided into 3 phases:

  1. Talks given by experts from various career backgrounds.
  2. Workshops on personality and leadership development
  3. Internship



Women’s Development Cell

The Objective of the Women’s Development Cell is to create awareness and inculcate a sense of Values in the younger generation so that they may differentiate the right from the wrong.

Each year, programmes are conducted by the cell to emphasis on the rights of the women and how girls should look after themselves right from their young age, as they are the ones who will give a healthy generation in future.

THEME- CHRISTMAS CELEBRATIONS

Wilforia 2010, sought to be different this year with its theme being ‘Christmas Celebrations’. This Annual Intra–College event brought with it new surprises, new challenges, new winners and lots of fun and frolic.

The event received tremendous response from the students and staff of different departments, both from the junior and senior college, which led to the excitement of the celebration.

Wilforia was celebrated over a period of two days from 21st to 22nd December 2010, covering variety of events: creative, cultural and sports. A unique feature of Wilforia which set the ball rolling for the celebrations was the beautifully decorated, almost 35 year old and around 30 feet tall, natural Christmas tree, a challenge successfully met by the enthusiastic students.

Our Principal, Dr. V.J. Sirwaiya inaugurated the event on 21st of December. At the inaugural function one witnessed and experienced the spirit of Christmas made evident by the traditional Christmas décor of red and green streamers along with angels adorning the college hall and a very charming visit by the Santa. The highlight of the festival was the Model Hunt event in which Mr. and Ms. Wilforia were crowned.

More than 500 students participated this year in various sports, creative and cultural events.

The stage was set; the red carpet was rolled out, paparazzi waited in eager anticipation for the revelation of much yearned for fest of the year – ADOREA. With the decorative skill of the organiser’s receiving immense commendation, ADOREA 2010 welcomed the world of Glamour into its aged backyard with its theme “Glam & Glitz”.

The much hyped inauguration lived up to its expectations, as slated renowned personalities like Mr. Vithal Kamat- Owner of Orchid Group of Hotels and Mr. Boman Irani- Theatre artist and Actor were in attendance. The chief guests marvelled at the ability of the dancers whose performance led to a sudden infliction of vigour. The traditional “Victory Song” which followed, defined a lot more than Adorea for the organisers and offered a spectacle to all others.

The inauguration was followed by an awe-inspiring lecture by Mr. Kamat. It was truly an exceptional experience for many present to witness one of the most distinguished personalities of the industry share his views amongst their midst.

The events that followed were packed with the presence of students from across Mumbai. NMIMS, Hinduja, St. Xaviers, Sydenham, St. Andrews were some of the twenty eight colleges that graced the seventh edition of this mega fest which invites all departments.

DUCATI MUMBAI chose ADOREA as a platform to launch its latest model DUCATI 1098 which was displayed throughout the event.

‘HOPE’- Adorea’s Annual social drive achieved another milestone by not only continuing its association with Jeevan Asha, an old age home but also aiding the under-privileged children of Bal Bhavan.
Snapparazzi and Bulls and Bears were new additions to the event list and were well received by the participants. Treasure Hunt, unlike its previous few editions broke free to be recognised as a major event with students going as far as Dadar for the hunt.

The turn up for the sports events was exceptional, with over eight sports events slated to be conducted within four days, the management was on tip toes but did live up to its merit. Throw ball and basketball was introduced for girls, another step forward for ADOREA.

The much awaited cultural events lived up to its expectation, solo singing was judged by Mr. Piyush Kanochia- Music Director and his presence was apt with the energy the event created for the rest of the day. Adorea Face of the Year followed and Ms. Manisha Kelkar- Super Model & Film Actor graced the occasion, as ADOREA witnessed numerous beautiful faces with remarkable talents on its very stage. The first night of cultural events ended with a jam packed college hall for the Fashion Show in spite of it being a Sunday which was judged by Ms. Meghna Naidu- TV actor.

Solo Dance displayed a lot of flexibility, and as the spotlight decided the person who will perform it became a challenge for the participants. Group dance was judged by Mr. Sanjay Yadav- Dancer & Choreographer.
ADOREA came to an end with its Band event and the DJ night. Seven bands competed in the finals. The event was judged by the members of one of the most famous youth bands – The BLAKC.

ADOREA to the students means:
To be unwell yet making it to carry out your responsibility ....... confused within but reassuring other’s.....Another colleague will tell you ...That’s Adorea..........

To respect the ones who taught you the trade...... and the silent understanding that making it bigger would only mean respect all the more ........That’s Adorea........

To compete with not one but.........two mega events ....... and still live to tell the tale.............That’s Adorea......

Polaris- BMM Inter-collegiate event

Polaris started in 2001, as one of the first media festivals in the city.

It is also the first inter-collegiate festival in the academic year. Polaris has a distinctive theme every year. The theme in 2010 – 11 was Vintage Media. It was the first festival to feature vintage cars, vintage movies and still cameras.

The theme for 2011 – 12 festival is Carnivals. The date for 2011 – 12 festival is 15th, 16th & 17th July 2011. Polaris is one of the most popular media festivals and more than 30 Colleges which have BMM, participate.

Wilsonian – Annual college magazine


The past unfolds through the pages of the WILSONIAN. Never content to be a silent spectator, the magazine voices the changing face of society, through the changing concerns of the student community. The history of the college has its permanent records through the WILSONIAN.

Special issues 1957 – 1958. 125 years of Wilson College

1982- Sesquicentennial issue

1997-1998 – 50 years of Indian Independence. Articles by eminent freedom fighters and the role of the Wilson College in the freedom struggle.

1999-2000-2001 – 2 Millenium issues- an updated record of the college and its activities

In 1994 and 1999, the WILSONIAN was awarded the M.V. Chandgadkar Trophy for the Best College Magazine.

Currently, it is a record of all the activities of all the academic departments and offers a campus review of the various co-curricular activities and programmes of the college.

Graduating Service



The Graduating Service held at the end of the academic year for the final year students is a unique event. Prayers and good wishes are offered to them in the Chapel. The service is often referred as ‘the occasion to recharge one’s batteries’ where many Wilsonians draw inner strength to get ready to face the challenges that life will bring along its way. Teachers and students then gather in the College hall to share their feelings and experiences with the Institution.
