Wilson College has had a rich tradition of encouraging and
nurturing talent. The Cultural
Center, as it was called then was headed by a Staff Convener or Staff Advisor
and was responsible for organising the College Day and other cultural activities.
The Curtural Center was renamed as The Fine Arts Circle in
1987. It has been occupying a
permanent place since 1998 in a small room next to I-1 in the New Building. The Fine Arts Circle co-ordinates participation in inter-collegiate
events, organizes workshops, competitions and cultural events in the college.
The Wilsonians have their own Gymkhana Pavilion and a green
patch of land attached to it on the Netaji Subhash Road, with facilties for
almost all indoor and outdoor games such as Athletics, Carrom, Chess, Table
Tennis, Tennis, Hockey, Football, Cricket, Weight Lifting and Gymnastics. The resident attendants (peons) look after the maintenance of equipment
and the ground.
The college campus offers facilities for Boxing Karate, Volley
Ball and Basket Ball. It is gratifying
to find that even as early; as in the beginning of the century, the college
authorities considered sports activities as an integral part of total education
that a student should receive.
In 1913, formal permission was received for erecting a pavilion.
Sir Shapurji Bharucha gave a handsome donation of Rs.10,000/-
to meet the cost of its construction. The work started towards the end of 1915 and was completed
in the summer of 1916. The new
pavilion was opened by Lord Willingdon, the then Governor of Bombay, on 20th December 1916.
And since then, over a period, the sports activities of the
college have expanded immensely with more and more college students taking
advantage of the facilities offered.
Rugby was introduced in 1970, due to the persistent
efforts of Dr. James Barton. In
1976, the Wilson College Gymkhana Rugby team won the national championship
and the Bombay Cup.
Women’s cricket was the other new activity introduced
in 1975. Wilson
College was the first college in Bombay University to have a women’s cricket
team. Wilson College Gymkhana
was the venue of the first night cricket match organized in Bombay, or perhaps
in India, by two local cricket clubs in May1981.

An Intra-collegiate festival viz., KSHITIJ provides a platform
to maximum number of students to express their talent. The idea of intra-collegiate festival was conceived by a group of students
led by Sri Harsh Kaushik and Dr. Prabhu, the then Dean of students in 1991.
This festival is re-christened as “MORPHOSIS”
